Intro Post

Why did I decide to take Japanese? There are a variety of reasons: first of all, I will admit my interest was first peaked when I began to read manga and watch anime, and I started falling in love with the language. I decided that it would not only be fun to learn it, but challenging.

I would also love to help out some of my online friends with translation work, as there are many comics that can not be read by people who know only English. In the future, I'd also love to visit Japan, and it would be rude not to know the language while visiting there.

I'm extremely excited for this class! While the no-English policy frightens me a bit, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it quickly, as I already know several words and phrases. I can't wait to piece together what I know into actual sentences and conversations! I've also wanted to learn a foreign language for some time now, so this is perfect.

  2. I think with a lot of us our first exposure to Japanese is manga/anime. I think it's great that you would want to help out other people with translating! And I also find the no-English policy frightening, but also encouraging when I think that classes before us have felt the same way and are now probably pretty fluent.

  3. I also love Japanese anime. My all time favorite is Spirited Away. The no-English policy scares me a little bit too. English is my second language, and when I studied English in middle school, we had a similar no-Chinese policy. You learn a language really fast when you are forced to speak it.

  4. It's nice to hear that other people are interested in not only the Japanese language but also in the countries popular culture. Hopefully we will get the chance to talk about some of our shared interests!

  7. Kon nichiwa. I believe that learning new language from what you are interested is a good start. I recommend you to watch the movie which you can know Japanese culture and society. Well-known animes such as Naruto or One Piece is non-fiction anime. Against that, you can know many culture or society from animes like spirit-away. I don't know very well about anime, but there are a lot of animes I recommend you to watch. I can talk you about thsis anytime. Ganbatte kudasai( try your best).
